Alcohol Policy

The Liver Coalition supports initiatives that prevent liver cancer—the fastest growing cause of cancer death in the United States—we focus on both patient support and community‑wide strategies. These strategies aim to prevent and, when necessary, treat the leading causes of liver cancer, including alcohol‑associated liver disease, viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and rare and pediatric liver diseases.

Our goals are often achieved through collaboration with other groups. Below is a list of organizations where we participate as a member or serve in a leadership role.

The San Diego County Binge and Underage Drinking Initiative (BUDI) is Reimagining our Communities, free from alcohol-related harms. BUDI is part of a comprehensive countywide prevention system that utilizes community-based, environmental strategies to address the underlying causes of substance misuse and substance use disorders.  The BUDI engages all aspects of the community and key stakeholders to establish or change written and unwritten community standards, codes and attitudes that influence the prevalence of underage and high-risk drinking and other harms to communities and neighborhoods.

The California Access Coalition (CAC) is a network of local and state behavioral health organizations that advocate to eliminate barriers that keep Californians from accessing medication and behavioral health treatment. Our mission is to educate policy makers and the public about access to medication and behavioral health by convening key stakeholders to advocate for patient-centered policies. For more than two decades, we have provided a forum for advocacy and discussion among leading behavioral health care organizations.

Alcohol Justice is commitment to equity for all communities and our alcohol industry watchdog role.  We seek changes in alcohol corporations and their products, promotions, and practices, alcohol policies, regulations, and enforcement. We bring research, policy, media, and advocacy together; mobilize coalitions that include youth, adults, and various community leaders; and organize to enact, support, and advocate for alcohol policies that keep youth and communities safe and healthy.

The Healthy San Diego Medi-Cal Transformation Task Force | Behavioral Health Workgroup is a collaborative forum where County Behavioral Health Services staff, health plans, and community partners meet to coordinate behavioral health initiatives, share updates, and improve service delivery.  The Workgroup plays a critical role in aligning health plans and the County on behavioral health priorities, ensuring that data reporting, quality improvement, and collaborative projects are coordinated. This helps improve access, accountability, and outcomes for behavioral health services in San Diego.
